Village Center at Woodmoor is located within the town of Monument in the “Woodmoor” community which occupies approximately 2,000 acres of land with 51 miles of roadway, serving over 9,000 residents. Woodmoor is situated in the northern part of unincorporated El Paso County, straddling the Palmer Divide near the historic town of Monument and about 25 minutes from downtown Colorado Springs. Monument enjoys unique galleries and boutiques, restaurants and business offices. During the holiday season the area is a favorite stop for locals and tourists to enjoy celebrations such as Small Town Christmas and arts and craft fairs. Summer finds the town filled with beautiful flowers, Art Hop events, a huge 4th of July Celebration, Concerts in the Park and several family summer activities.
The Monument Community Garden was established in 2010 and built as an Eagle Scout project using all locally donated materials. They grow organic produce for participants and for the local food bank, Tri-Lakes Cares. You’ll find them in the center of Lavelett Park on the west side of Beacon Lite Road between Third Street and HWY 105 in Monument. Lewis Palmer School District #38
The Lewis-Palmer School District serves the Village Center at Woodmoor neighborhood and is situated at the north end of El Paso County, north of the United States Air Force Academy. Serving about 6,000 students, the district encompasses Palmer Lake, Monument, Woodmoor and the northern part of the Black Forest area.
In addition to the core curriculum, all district schools offer programs to meet the unique learning needs of students that qualify for Special Education, Gifted and Talented services and for those students that speak languages other than English. Indicators of student learning, as measured by state and national tests, confirm that District 38 ranks among the highest in the state. The high school graduation rate is over 95%, and approximately 85% continue on to college. The district provides bus transportation and a hot lunch program, and school-sponsored athletic programs are available for boys and girls at the middle and high school levels.
Monument and the surrounding areas offer a wide variety of dining options including the infamous Rosie’s Diner, where you’ll enjoy breakfast, lunch or dinner in a retro environment complete with ultra friendly service, milkshakes and working jukeboxes.
Catriona Cellars is a locally owned café, winery and tasting room located in downtown Monument. They have a gourmet selection of crostini’s, sliders, soups and salads in addition to great wines and a dessert menu. Visit the outdoor courtyard patio in the summertime for a relaxing afternoon or evening treat.
Other nearby options include the Backeast Bar and Grill, in Monument for Wednesday Trivia nights and live weekend music, or head over to Palmer Lake and visit the Speedtrap Bistro for lunch during the week or stop by for music on select Friday and Saturday evenings.
For shopping needs, you have several options. If you need a bigger grocery store with a larger variety, you may want to use King Soopers on Baptist Road or Safeway just off Highway 105 in Monument. For home or outdoor projects, you’ll enjoy the quick 5-minute trip to nearby Home Depot.
