Start the Year with New Energy: Feng Shui Tips for Your Ambience

Blog Posts

The start of the year is the perfect time to incorporate some elements of Feng Shui into your home. For many people, Feng Shui helps to bring balance to an environment like their home, leading to increased harmony and energy. With that in mind, here are some Feng Shui tips for improving your home this new year.

Declutter

Everyone’s guilty of letting things pile up around their homes over time until eventually there’s no other word to describe the space than “cluttered.” Clutter can be a problem in all sorts of practical ways like misplacing important items and things just getting in the way, but those aren’t the only reasons to declutter.

Feng shui practitioners will tell you how clutter can damage the energy in your home and keep you from fostering a healthy, happy environment. Luckily, it’s a pretty easy fix. Just start by getting rid of any items you don’t need anymore or haven’t used in quite some time, and then develop a system for organizing the things you plan on keeping. It’s good to have a designated place for everything so putting your items away will be that much easier going forward.

Create a Welcoming Main Entryway

A great main entryway is a bright, beautiful gateway into your home. Arranging it properly goes a long way toward improving the energy level inside. After getting rid of any clutter in the entryway, consider some of the more permanent details around it.

For example, do you have a mirror in front of the entryway? If so, you should consider moving it so that the mirror is against a wall that’s perpendicular to your door. Otherwise, the chi entering your home will simply bounce right off the mirror and go back outside.

Another thing to consider is the door itself. If your door is damaged with chips and cracks or it sticks when trying to open it, you should repair or replace it as soon as possible. In terms of energy, problems with your door can contribute to difficulty bringing in new opportunities.

Finally, consider adding some crystals to your entryway decorations. Crystals can be a great energy tool anywhere in the home but they’re especially useful near your home’s front entrance. An amethyst crystal specifically may help counteract any negativity making its way into your home and replace it with positive energy.

Rearrange Your Bedroom

Your bedroom should be your sanctuary in your home, and for that to happen, the energies in the room need to be just right. Start by making sure that your headboard is against a solid wall and that there’s no mirror placed directly in front of the bed. If you have many electronic devices in the room, removing some might help you get better sleep.

From there, consider slightly more permanent changes like painting the room a lighter, more neutral color. Blue is a great choice since it promotes feelings of peace and serenity.

Feng Shui in the Living Room

You will want to situate your sofa such that the back is against a wall with a visual on the door opening. Keep the room clean, open, and clutter free.

Increase Natural Light

Natural light has the ability to boost spirits and make you feel more connected to the outside world. Whenever possible, try to lighten your home with natural light from windows and doors rather than artificial light.

Add Plants

A strong connection to nature is an essential component of feng shui. Fostering that connection can be as simple as bringing some greenery into your home. Plants are related to the wood element in feng shui which is associated with increasing wealth and opportunities.

You might want to add plants specifically near your workspace in your home if you have one and in the kitchen. Some great plants to choose from include orchids, chrysanthemums, or even bamboo but any plant will make a wonderful addition.
